Life Trips Over Itself

I probably tried to run before my heart was ready to walk. All that got me was a week in the Intensive Care Unit at the Montfort hospital. However, I have learned that I am going to have to pace myself. I can’t prentend that I am not a sick man. Appearently, my ejection fraction is 20%, and my heart is very enlerged. The healthy heart usually has an ejection fraction of about 60% – generally speaking, this means that the heart ejects 60% of it’s blood every time it pumps.

However, just as I cannot pretend that I am well, let’s not pretend that I am dead or dying. I can sit at my computer, and my cardiologist is hopeful that we can improve the function of my heart with medication over the next year. That’s my job, and everything else fits around it. All I have to do is live prayerfully, rest in the prayers of others and co-operate with my doctor.
